Patrick Ewing, who announced he had tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday, is currently under care at an undisclosed hospital. We thought this would be a good time to take a look back at his sensational Georgetown career.
Ewing got to Georgetown in 1981 and while he was widely expected to be great, he probably exceeded expectations.
Everyone knew he was highly athletic and capable of dominance. What not many realized was just how thoroughly intimidating he would become.
This was primarily on defense although you’ll see some vicious power dunks on this video.
What you can’t see so much here is that, while he was in college, Patrick Ewing may have been the greatest running big man in college since Bill Russell.
In one NCAA game, we watched him block a shot against one team then beat everyone down court for the alley-oop dunk.
That was pretty much ball game. He was on a different level.
Look how powerful he is here. He was a great pro, but in the NBA, he lost a lot of speed and wasn’t nearly as intimidating in later years. The Georgetown version of Ewing though remains astounding.
