As we’ve said often we like to read recruiting news from the perspective of other fan bases and in this case it’s Texas Tech where the Red Raider partisans seem to think the odds of landing a reclassified Jonathan Kuminga are looking pretty good:
“Texas Tech basketball fans have become greedy. Already with the nation’s No. 9 recruiting class (tops in the Big 12), many Red Raiders are not satisfied.
“That’s because the possibility of landing Jonathan Kuminga, the top high school player in the country regardless of classification, is a possibility. And in recent weeks, that possibility seems to be growing more realistic. In fact, there seems to be some serious smoke to what Tech fans hope is the fire that will fuel a 2020-21 title run.”
In seasons past that would have been a ludicrous idea. Tech has had some good years here and there, but the idea that the Red Raiders would be able to swoop in and get a player like Kuminga?
Clemson would have had better odds or at least even.
However, Chris Beard has quickly emerged as a superb coach and he is clearly going to draw talent. But major competition remains, notably Duke.
Only Texas Tech has family on the roster though as Kuminga’s brother, Joel Ntambwe who transferred from UNLV, is a Red Raider.
