Tom Konchalski Calls It A Career

We hope it’s a happy and sweet retirement filled with lots of basketball, just like he would want it.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar when he was in high school and known as Lew Alcindor. There’s a pretty good chance Tom Konchalski was at this game.

We were really sorry to hear that recruiting legend Tom Konchalski has decided to retire and end his service.

Konchalski is a lifer in the best sense. He loves the game and has hung around it his entire life. He carved out a niche as a first-rate analyst and an unusually good and decent man. Everyone likes and respects him. He’s also helped hundreds of young players get identified and on to scholarships and, in many cases, to the NBA or a lifer career of their own in basketball in some capacity.

He never fully adapted to the modern era and no one cared. He stuck with a typewriter and mailed his report to coaches via the U.S. by God Postal Service.

Apparently he’s had a health issue for a while and just felt like this was the right time to retire. To say he’ll be missed is an understatement.
