This is pretty great: during his rookie year, in 1996-97, Steve Nash got caught in isolation against Michael Jordan with predictable results.
During a foul shot, Jordan walked up to him and said, laughing, that Nash had been at a disadvantage.
Nash laughed too, agreeing, and then asked: “can I have your shoes?”
And later, Jordan gave them to him.
It’s an interesting story, particularly with all the hard-edged stories that we’ve heard recently from the documentary film “The Last Dance,” and all the stories that various people have been asked about since everyone wants to keep the party going.
It’s nice to see a lighter side of Jordan. His competitive desire defines him but of course it’s not the end all and be all of the man.
It’s particularly cool since Nash said he idolized Jordan and also that he made his veteran teammates jealous. You can’t beat that.
