Former K Staffer Making A Solid Start At Elon

Mike Schrage could be off to a wonderful start with the Phoenix

Some of you will remember Mike Schrage. He was on Coach K’s staff at Duke for nine years, then worked for Johnny Dawkins at Stanford, then for Chris Holtmann at Butler and then Ohio State.

He also worked for Bob Knight as a student assistant when he was in school and for a year for Rod Barnes at Ole Miss.

That’s an impressive resume by any standard. Now he’s the head man at Elon. He finished his first season with the uncertainty everyone did but he made an impression on the recruiting trail this spring: Elon hauled in the #1 class in the CAA and the #4 class in the state, behind the Triangle’s ACC schools, but ahead of Wake Forest, Davidson, Campbell, Charlotte, Tubby Smith’s High Point and LeVelle Moton’s really good NCCU program.

That’s really impressive for his first season - and he beat out NC State for wing Ja’Dun Michael, who also considered Penn State, Wichita State and Cincinnati.

That’s quite a coup for Elon.

Keep an eye out - the Phoenix appears to be rising.
