Chris Beard has left an immense impression on the basketball world and, now that that’s happened, he has Texas Tech winning battles on the recruiting trail.
The Red Raiders already have the 12th ranked class for 2020. They’d like to add Jonathan Kuminga and Nimari Burnett, a 6-3 guard out of Prolific Prep, is working him in addition to the staff.
“I’m definitely trying to stay in contact with [Kuminga], knowing that I love to play with good players. It has shown over the few years I’ve been on the team. Definitely, if we get him it would be really good for Texas Tech and really good for us as a team to make an even better, longer run in March Madness.”
That’s probably true wherever he ends up. However, his brother, Joel Ntambwe, is also on the Texas Tech roster, having transferred from UNLV.
So it’s a complicated recruitment.
The story also points to the fact that Kuminga’s AAU coach is a familiar name: Andy Borman, who walked on at Duke and who is Coach K’s nephew (his mother is MIckey’s sister Donna).
That may or may not be a factor. He was also Mohamed Bamba’s coach and Bamba ended up at Texas.
