In this article and podcast with Pittsburgh Sports Report, former Duke guard and assistant coach Jeff Capel, now head coach at Pitt, talks about his experiences with Duke and in particular the 2015 team which he calls the best he’s ever been involved with.
He says that the 2011-12 team also had something special but was disrupted by injuries to Ryan Kelly and Seth Curry and exited the tournament in the Elite Eight.
When ESPN rebroadcast the Duke-Wisconsin 2015 title game, Capel spent the evening texting with members of the team. That would have been a great time to be a fly on the wall just to hear the inside memories of that game.
Remember that was when very few people realized Grayson Allen was a tremendous athlete and no one expected him to come into the game and ignite Duke. That’s just what he did, though. What a run.
