Shane Battier Turns Down Bulls Offer

Once a rising star on the court, now he’s a rising star in the front office.

Well this is intriguing: Former Blue Devil Shane Battier, now an executive with his former team the Miami Heat, was apparently being heavily pursued by the Chicago Bulls, who wanted to make him their head of basketball operations.

This site says that the Bulls offered it to him “on a silver platter” but he turned it down anyway. The site goes on to say that Heat CEO Nick Arizona suggested that he should turn it down and speculates, logically, that he may have done so because Miami is grooming him for greater things.

Who wouldn’t want to do that? People have understood Battier is exceptional since he was in high school.

Interestingly, if he does become GM, wherever it happens, he might be the third member of the 1999 team to accomplish that as Elton Brand is Philly’s GM and Trajan Langdon has the job in New Orleans. Pretty impressive.
