In recruiting there are winners and losers and over the last day or so, Arizona State has been a big winner and Michigan has been a major loser.
Michigan had a monster class lined up but the two biggest stars bailed on Juwan Howard: Isaiah Todd decided to skip college ball to play professionally overseas while Top Ten recruit Joshua Christopher decommitted and ended up at ASU where he’ll play for Bobby Hurley.
That one might have had an extra bit of sting for Howard given the Fab Five’s distaste for Duke. As we noted a while back in the most recent flare up between the two sides, Hurley has never forgotten the slights or the ugly comments and we’re sure on one level he relished taking a major recruit from Michigan and Howard.
And he also got another Big Ten pick-off as Ohio State’s Luther Muhammad has announced he’ll transfer to Arizona State. A 6-3 sophomore, like Hurley Muhammad is from Jersey, in his case Newark.
This is unrelated but one of his Ohio State teammates is Justice Sueing. We see law school in his future.
Depending on what the NCAA does, Muhammad may be eligible this fall: the rule about transfers having to sit out a year may be changed to allow a one-time transfer without sitting out.
If that happens, Arizona State’s backcourt will get a major injection next season.
