In the Triangle, still known as Tobacco Road in the broader basketball world despite being one of the most important and successful high tech and medical hubs in the world, the local games are still the best and most interesting.

So it was when Duke, barely over .500, hosted #7 NC State Sunday.

The lead changed hands six times and there were five ties as NC State tried to get away from the Blue Devils but couldn’t really shake them until the end.

Haley Gorecki finished with 21 for Duke while Leaonna Odom and Kyra Lambert had 13 each.

The loss dropped Duke to 11-10 and 5-5 in the ACC.

Local life stays interesting as Duke next plays the other neighbors, the UNC Tar Heels. The Heels are in the first year under new coach Courtney Banghart, who brings a 254–103 record from a 12-year career at Princeton. That game is on Thursday.
