We’d read a little bit about this short animation called Hair Love by Matthew A. Cherry, and when we found it on You Tube, we had to give it a watch.

And good thing, too.

This is a really sweet film about an African-American father learning to do his daughter’s hair. It panics him at first but eventually his love overcomes his fear and he does a really nice job.

They then go to visit her mother who is in the hospital, apparently receiving chemotherapy as she’s lost her hair.

The family reunion is warm and the entire film is touching. Cherry has a bright future in film as evidenced by the Oscar this short, immensely charming film just won.
