In a way, it’s too bad that Alan Iverson’s time has come and gone. A physically slight athlete, Iverson could have been a great quarterback too. He was tremendous in high school but chose to focus on basketball.
Good thing, too, because with the exception of Isaiah Thomas, we can’t think of a better little guard in NBA history and it’s really hard to think of a tougher one.
He was a controversial player, first after a high school incident when he was involved in an incident in a bowling alley and spent time in jail, probably unfairly. Then there was the infamous practice incident, where coach Larry Brown criticized him for missing practice. His reaction went viral before we had the concept of viral.
What people didn't generally know was that a close friend had just been killed, which changes the perception of his reaction a good bit.
Anyway, in this video, Iverson, then in his prime with the 76ers, shreds Chicago’s defenders one after the other with his legendary crossover - other than Jordan.
And even then he gets to the lane and gets a shot off. He just missed it.
