Coach K has a history of doing things to fire up his team before a game. One of his earliest players tells a story of the lights going out before Duke had a major game with Louisville in probably his third season.
The lights went down in the locker room and then K opens the door with a lantern in hand and says....”I come not to praise Louisville but to bury them!”
This Jason Williams story is better.
The team was watching the movie Gladiator before a game and suddenly a flaming arrow is shot into a dartboard, then a ball rolls in followed by Coach K who jumps on it, wrestles it and starts yelling “fight with me! Fight with me!”
All of which would have been awesome and the team did jump up and run out ready to fight with him. But Williams jumped up so fast he broke his shoelace and when he came back to fix it, well, there was a twist at the end of his story that’s pretty unbelievable.
