For obvious reasons we don't spend a lot of time here talking about Wake Forest football. However, there are occasions when it’s worth talking about unusual accomplishments, and what Wake Forest true freshman Nick Andersen accomplished was incredible for anyone.

But for a walk-on?

The young safety had 11 tackles and three interceptions against Virginia Tech Saturday and helped lead the Deacs to a 23-16 win over the #20 Hokies.

No matter how you cut it, that’s ridiculous. His teammates carried him off the field and chanted “Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!” in reference to Notre Dame’s legendary walk-on Rudy Ruettiger, a 5-6 walk-on who also showed immense heart.

Thing is, he is famed for perseverance and for being ready when his number was called. Andersen did the spectacular in just his fifth game.

His stats have gone up in every game since his second, a game against NC State.

When his teammates carried him off the field, they also chanted “scholly, scholly!” Deacons coach Dave Clawson basically said it’s a done deal.

It’s all pretty amazing.
