Normally we have an informal policy of not linking to stuff that’s not pretty fresh but occasionally we make exceptions. And so it is with this story.
It’s from March and from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch about hometown hero Chris Carrawell.
We always like Carrawell because he is possibly the most natural, least pretentious person we’ve ever met. He’s just C-well.
We interviewed him several years ago and asked him about the transition from a tough St. Louis neighborhood to Duke and he said as soon as he got to campus he felt totally at home: lots of trees, friendly people - couldn’t have been happier.
On one media day, as soon as he came out the whole room gravitated to him and his charisma just took the room over. We’ve never seen reporters so happy and entertained (among his other qualities, Carrawell is hilarious). When he was ready to leave, the reporters all clapped him on the back. It was beautiful.
So is his overall story and this piece nicely reflects it. He made a huge impression on his hometown and his adopted one too.
