Over the last 30 years, ACC gyms have changed a lot. The old places - Carmichael, Reynolds, University Hall, Maryland’s Cole Field House before they left the conference - were abandoned for fancy new digs.
Only Cameron, the new Littlejohn and the remade Thriller Dome are left and everyone aspires to be Cameron.
Well and Lawrence Joel at Wake Forest and FSU’s Donald L. Tucker Civic Center but those would probably be better overhauled or replaced. The front of the Joel just makes no sense.
Then there are the expansion teams. Some of those are interesting. Pitt’s Petersen Events Center is really intriguing and while the Yum! Center is a bit odd overall the front makes up for it. That’s gorgeous.
Miami’s could probably do better than the Watsco Center and BC’s Silvio Conte isn’t much to look at.
Notre Dame’s Edmund Joyce Center is much nicer on the inside.
Incidentally, if you missed it, Syracuse spent the pandemic (so far anyway) overhauling the Carrier Dome. The pressurized roof is gone.
Take a spin around the ACC barns! It’s a nice trip and it’ll get you ready for the season.
