Former Blue Devil Harry Giles is going to have an interesting off-season. He’s come a long ways since sitting out his rookie year to rehab his knee, but Sacramento declined to exercise fourth year option.
However, there seems to be a lot of interest.
Before his knee woes, Giles was seen as a can’t-miss player, compared to Chris Webber, the former Michigan star and, for a time, great NBA player.
This writer thinks he’d be a good fit with Oklahoma City.
The Thunder are restructuring if not rebuilding. Billy Donovan is gone and the big three - Kevin Durant, James Harden and Russell Westbrook - are all long gone.
One of the other things that might be nice for Giles in OKC is that it’s a small-market team and the fans aren’t quite as cynical as they are in some of the larger markets. The fans are more likely to be supportive.
And you’d think he’d get minutes, and more than anything else, that’s what he really needs.
