In his third game back from injury, former Blue Devil Zion Williamson has seen his playing time increase from 18 to 21 to 27 minutes as the medical staff’s confidence increases.
Against the Celtics, Williamson was beat on a few occasions, notably by Kemba Walker on a drive when Williamson couldn’t recover. We’ve seen him in similar situations at Duke where he recovered, or at least tried to, and in his recovery either blocked the shot from behind or came close.
So he’s not completely back. He’ll continue to get better though. And even now, he’s doing things that shock his opponents. He did it to Walker and to big man Vincent Poirier, and left the very talented Jaylen Brown shocked when he blew by him for an alley-oop.
He also does a spin move under the basket that lost most of the Boston defenders who were clustered around him.
It shouldn’t take much longer until he’s fully recovered and ready to play longer minutes. We can’t wait. It’s been years since basketball has had this many surprises and this much fun.
Coming soon, on February 4th: Zion will meet the Greek Freak.
