Zion Williamson is still a few days away from his NBA debut and RJ Barrett is currently out with a sprained ankle.
So it’s a good time for their former Duke teammate Cam Reddish to have a breakout game.
Against the San Antonio Spurs, Reddish had a career high 22 points. He shot 8-13 and 5-7 on threes. He also made several clutch plays at the end of the game.
If you ever saw the movie Bull Durham, which of course was set and filmed not too far from Duke partly in the old Durham Athletic Park, you’ll remember Kevin Costner’s character Crash Davis advising star rookie Nuke LaRooch on how to use cliches in interviews.
They could have both learned from Reddish who had this Hall of Fame answer about how he had such a great game: “I was feeling great, especially in the second half,” Reddish told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “My teammates started finding me and stuff like that.”
That’s world-class. Not only did he work one of the great cliches in, he shoehorned in the rest with “stuff like that.” You can just mentally insert your own phrases.
It’s like the drive thru of cliches.
Even Crash Davis would have been impressed.
