Last year, Wake had a rough season but when the Demon Deacons came to Cameron, Zion Williamson was out after the infamous shoe blowout and they had an opening.
Wake battled Duke hard and at the end of the game, with Duke up three, Wake Forest’s Brandon Childress drove for a layup to cut the lead to one. Then Jack White had a mental lapse and passed the ball to RJ Barrett while both were out of bounds.
Wake got the ball back with 7.4 left and Brandon Childress took a reasonable outside shot that missed. Chaundee Brown got the rebound in the lane and put the ball up over Jack White.
It rolled off the rim. It was that close and Wake Forest, remember, was pretty bad last year.
It just goes to show you that in the ACC, you can never take anything for granted.
