Has former Duke quarterback Daniel Jones’ time arrived already?

New York coach Pat Shurmur hasn't named a starter for Sunday’s game with Tampa Bay which is surprising since Eli Manning was expected to be the starter all season.

However, New York is winless and sometimes you just need to shake things up.

“[Manning] has been our starter to this point and I don’t want to talk about anything else moving forward from that standpoint. I’m not ready to discuss that.”

He could of course still name Manning as the starter but the fact that he hasn’t speaks volumes.

This is all rather amazing when you consider how unhappy people were when New York selected Jones with the sixth pick in the draft. He made an immediate impression in training camp and gradually people have come to see that he’s got serious potential.

On the other hand, while he may get to start earlier than expected, Jones is getting thrown to the wolves. He won't get the benefit of breaking in slowly, but of course he didn’t at Duke either when he got the starting job after Thomas Sirk went down with an injury.

Sunday’s game should be interesting to say the least.
