Well it’s official now - the New York Giants are giving Daniel Jones a shot at starting Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It’s only the second time in the last fifteen years that Eli Manning hasn’t started and we’re sure he was injured then. That’s pretty amazing really. He’s been incredibly durable and it’s not like New York has had a great offensive line all fifteen years.
Being a rookie, Jones is highly likely to make some mistakes but he’s got his shot. Let’s see what he does with it.
Someone needs to ask Duke coach David Cutcliffe for his opinion since he coached them both in college, Manning at Mississippi and Jones of course at Duke. It must be a bit bittersweet for him to contemplate one of his proteges surpassing another.
On the other hand of course, Jones has not yet done anything significant as starter and a lot of rookie quarterbacks simply aren’t ready.
In other words there’s no guarantee that he stays the starter.
