Terrence Clarke’s recruitment has taken a bit of an odd turn and we’re not sure what to make of it.
According ASeaofBlue.com, Clarke is due to announce on Saturday and his AAU coach is pumping Duke at the last minute.
His coach, Dexter Foy, said this: “When we started this, one of the things he wanted to do — I hope I’m not letting the cat out of the bag — he’s a big Duke fan. Duke was his school. He loved Duke and he wanted to be a McDonald’s All-American. … He has a great chance of making a McDonald’s All-American. Duke has recruited him and have offered him and to have them on his list, I’m just happy for him and his family.”
The main issue here is whether or not Duke has offered. If Foy is correct on that and Clarke’s desires, then you’d think that Clarke would pick Duke on Saturday.
If Duke hasn’t offered, then it wouldn’t be the first time that a kid was focused on Duke but ultimately not thought, for whatever reason, to be a good fit.
Whatever Clarke announces tomorrow, he’s an 18 year old with a big dream. We hope he can make it come true.
Update: what we really love about the link above is that it’s from a Kentucky site and when you see it in Google News it capitalizes the phrase Duke Basketball in the headline. That’s how deeply the branding has sunk in.
