Team USA Goes From Bad To Worse

First a correction: we thought that the knockout round meant you were out of the tournament altogether. As it turns out it just means you’re out of medal contention. The US fell out of that with the loss to France and then things got worse when it lost to Serbia Thursday, 94-89.

Serbia went up 25-5 before the US fought back.

The best the US can now do is 7th place. We’ll see how that turns out on Saturday.

Our sympathies to Gregg Popovich. Being the man he is we doubt that he will pass the buck but he certainly doesn’t bear full responsibility for this. Nonetheless, he’s likely to get ripped up one side and down the other because USA Basketball is not supposed to compete for seventh or eighth place - ever.

USA Basketball will have to think carefully about how to move forward after this poor showing.
