He wasn’t mad at Nike or anything like that

Here’s Zion Williamson with a bit of a sheepish explanation about what happened with his show blowout this past spring vs. UNC.

To be clear, he wasn’t mad at Nike. He said he just wore his shoe out and essentially set himself up for trouble: “It was just one of those things where the shoe was kinda worn out because I had been practicing in it lot and played a few hard games in it. So I think that was just kinda like my mistake. I just need to change my shoe [more often].”

After that of course, Nike turned a crisis into an opportunity and designed a shoe specifically for someone with Williamson’s mass and power. So now, if they chose to, they could market a line of shoes specifically to large, powerful athletes and use what happened in the UNC game as a considerable positive. They can now even have the guy who did it endorse the solution to that particular problem. Pretty smooth really.
