Art Chansky is at times a good journalist and at others is unfortunately something less than that. He is a dyed-in-the-wool UNC guy - not that that in itself is a problem. But he sometimes distorts things to keep UNC’s image as he imagines it to be but as we now know it never really was.

For instance, he says this in his latest column: “Coach K still has the edge with kids who truly have no interest in going to college, only off to the league ASAP.“

This is high comedy given UNC’s nearly twenty-year history of academic fraud, not to mention that the scandal is the primary reason why Ol’ Roy Williams hasn’t been able to recruit high talent for several years. Now that he can, he’s recruiting one-and-done players with as much enthusiasm as anyone else, albeit with somewhat less success. However, Coby White and Nassir Little both left Chapel Hill after just one season.

If he was a bit more curious, he’d ask if Sean May, who while at UNC said that independent study classes gave him a lot of flexibility, actually earned his degree or if his Afro-American studies classes were just another UNC joke.

But that’s asking a lot and it’s not like UNC has rushed to answer it either.
