Jeff Capel has been looking for big guys and he found on in grad transfer Eric Hamilton.
Hamilton started at Wichita then transferred to UNCG where he helped the Spartans to a superb season, finishing 29-7.
He’s a good size at 6-9 and 250 and while he only averaged about 6.1 ppg and 4.4 rpg he thinks he can play a key role for the Panthers:
“Pitt reminded me of a situation that I had in high school which was a team that wasn’t really good previously and they were trying to make improvements but just needed an extra push, another player...I believe that Coach Capel and the pieces that they already have in place will allow me to really for the first time in my college career to play my game that allowed me to get recruited out of high school...I believe that Coach Capel will play me and help develop my game in ways that I haven’t had the opportunity or the courtesy of doing at my first two college schools. I can handle it, I can shoot it, I can drive it, I can play inside and out...From my conversations with Coach, I believe that there’s a very real possibility that this system will allow me to do that along with helping the team win at the highest level which is most important.”
We’ll go out on a limb here and say that if he couldn’t do that at Wichita or UNCG he probably won't be able to do it at Pitt. However he may still be right about being the missing piece and helping Pitt become a much better team. Having a guy with his experience is going to be very valuable for Capel and his Panthers.
