Here’s some more interesting draft speculation: despite the previous stories saying that the Pelicans were absolutely not interested in striking a deal with Los Angeles, New Orleans may be highly interested in former Blue Devil Brandon Ingram, who has been a Laker since he left Duke.
Check out what New Orleans exec David Griffith said about Ingram on a radio show:
“Literally this kid doesn’t even have total control of his extremities yet. He’s so long, he’s got like that newborn deer lack of core strength.
”For Kyrie Irving to say that he thought [Ingram] was defensively tough for him is a huge statement by Kyrie. And it says a lot about the fact that Brandon is making big strides in his core strength.
”Earlier this year, I saw him get blown by like he was nailed to the floor at times against point guards. He’s very quickly adjusting. That’s a big deal. He’s 21 years old. It defies the imagination.”
That sounds like definite interest from the Pelicans.
Of course it would mean putting together at least two Blue Devils and you couldn’t find two more different athletes: big, powerful Zion Williamson and Ingram, who is built like Inspector Gadget. It would be a marketing dream.
No one knows how trades and such would work out - there are bound to be a lot more moving parts - but they might also join fellow former Blue Devils Frank Jackson and Jahlil Okafor which, if it happens, would pretty much make New Orleans Cameron South.
