Former Duke guard Tony Barone has died.
Barone, a short and stocky guard, played at Duke under Vic Bubas before moving into coaching himself. He was a lifer who was head coach at Creighton and Texas A&M. He also spent a lot of time in the NBA and was the head coach for Memphis for a while.
This spring, before he died, he got to see his son Brian become a head coach which must have been a great thing for him.
He was a blast of energy and fun. It must have been agonizing for his loved ones to see him slowed and then felled by lung cancer. He was 72 and will be greatly missed.
