LaVar Ball, father of the Ball Brothers, has struck again. Yesterday he offended ESPN’s Molly Qerim when she said she’d like to change gears and he said “you can change gears with me any time.” Even Stephen A. Smith was taken aback.
Not content with merely being boorish, he went on to say something truly ludicrous: that he really wanted son Lonzo traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the New Orleans Pelicans and that he wanted it before the Pelicans won the #1 pick in the draft which they’ll use to pick Duke’s Zion Williamson Thursday.
This despite his loudly proclaimed desire to have all three sons in Lakers jerseys and his tirades against the Lakers for having the temerity to trade Lonzo to anyone.
Again, Smith was incredulous, telling him to “stop lying.”
People ask why ESPN wastes time on Ball but it’s pretty clear to us: he’s brought back the tradition of the court jester. He’ll say or do anything to stay in the spotlight and apparently he still draws enough eyeballs for the World Wide Leader to keep him on speed dial.
