Highly regarded recruit RJ Hampton has opted to spurn college basketball for at least a year in Australia’s NBL where he’ll play for the New Zealand Breakers.

It’s an unusual but not unprecedented decision: other guys have decided to skip college and go overseas but most of them had little choice. Hampton is a solid student who just chose to be a professional as soon as possible and then to hopefully advance to the NBA.

His final collegiate choices were Kansas, Texas Tech and Memphis.
