When Tom Abatemarco brought recruit Spudd Webb to meet his boss Jim Valvano, the late State coach turned to him and said “you’re fired.”

Hard to blame him. Webb had a funny name and was just 5-7. But he could fly and was a damn good basketball player who went on to a nice NBA career.

Here’s some video of one of the ACC’s all-time great little guys. He was something else.
