Lately we’ve seen members of the late ‘90s Blue Devils make some interesting career moves.
Chris Carrawell joined Nate James as a Duke assistant. Steve Wojciechowski is head coach at Marquette and Chris Collins is at Northwestern. We believe Shane Battier is still with the Miami Heat, as the director of basketball development and analytics. Elton Brand and Trajan Langdon, aka the Alaskan Assassin, are both now NBA GMs.
And of course there’s Chris Burgess.
Burgess transferred to Utah in 1999 we think and spent two years under the late Rick Majerus.
During his recruitment he was pushed, as a Mormon, to commit to BYU but he preferred Duke and, infamously as then-BYU coach Roger Reid said, “let nine million Mormons down.”
He left Duke 20 years ago if you can believe that, and his path has led him back to BYU as an assistant coach. Here’s a recap from the Deseret Times about his decision back in 1999.
