The weeks running up to the NBA Draft are fun because of speculation and rumors. So here’s one for Duke fans to chew on:
Cleveland is allegedly trying to move up to pick RJ Barrett.
In order for that to work, the Cavs would have to swing a deal with New York as the Knicks own the third pick. If he’s still around at #4, we’d be shocked if the Lakers didn’t take him.
Cleveland has the #5 and #26 picks in this year’s draft and picking up an extra might interest New York, and the Knicks of course could push for more, say, Frank Ntilikina, who might be expendable with Dennis Smith now a Knick.
Of course all of this will be secondary to New York’s desire to pursue Anthony Davis who wants out of New Orleans. Still, there’s no reason to rule out a three-team trade which would open up more options for everyone.
