Fans of controlled implosion mark your calendars: Virginia’s University Hall is coming down this month.

Specifically it will come down on May 25th at 10:00 A.M.

Implosions are really an amazing thing and a truly American creation. Only here would be be impatient to get our historical buildings out of the way to put something newer up or, in Virginia’s case, a couple of grass playing fields.

It also marks a nice transition. U-Hall was not an admired place, not even among Virginia fans. John Paul Jones is a beautiful facility and while Virginia has been using it for several years, there’s something appropriate about blowing up U-Hall just weeks after winning the national championship makes it firmly a part of the past.
