K’s Coaching Tree Sprouts Another Branch

Well this is pretty cool: former Blue Devil Kenny Blakeney, who grew up in D.C., will return home as the head coach of the Howard University Bisons.

Since Howard is in the MEAC Blakeney will visit Durham periodically to take on LeVelle Moton’s NCCU team.

Being in DC should give Blakeney a theoretical recruiting advantage: he can work the DMV market and in particular D.C. and Baltimore for a minimal recruiting budget. He’ll have a hard time beating out teams like Maryland for top talent. There are so many good players in the area that he should be able to do just fine.

Really a solid program in the DC area - any solid program - should be like Memphis and able to recruit almost solely by ground transportation.
