After asking to be released by Duke, Boogie Ellis chose Memphis Monday and will be a Tiger this fall.

We certainly wish him the best but as David Cutcliffe has said, if someone isn’t going to keep their word better to find out sooner rather than later.

Memphis coach Penny Hardaway, in his first full recruiting season, has served notice that he will be recruiting as well as anyone in the nation.

Aside from Ellis, just this week he added highly regarded Lester Quinones and grad transfer Rayjon Tucker, assuming he doesn’t decide to stay in the draft.

Add in James Wiseman and DJ Jeffries and, barring some really bad moves by Hardaway, Memphis basketball is back.

He’s muscling in to an elite level rather quickly and the school that’s likely to be the most concerned is Kentucky.

The Wildcats have had a good year too but at least two of Memphis’s recruits would probably have ended up at UK if Hardaway wasn’t involved.

This has not gone unnoticed in the Commonwealth so keep an eye on tensions between UK and Memphis.
