The hubbub over New Yorks’ taking Duke QB Daniel Jones at #6 in the NFL draft continues. New York GM Daniel Gettelman defends his choice, saying he knew “for a fact” at least two other teams would have taken Jones before New York’s next pick at #17 in the first round. The New York Post thinks he may have been wrong about Denver’s interest.
Among the believers: Jay Bilas, who has known Jones since he was a kid and who speaks highly of his character, toughness and competitive desire.
This reminds us of when Stephen Curry entered the NBA draft after his junior year and a lot of people doubted that he could make it. Bilas was on a radio show, we think, and a caller expressed doubts about his physical talents translating to the league. Bilas gathered himself for a minute and then said..”you do realize that he’s exceptionally intelligent don’t you?”
We’re just saying he’s a pretty keen judge.
So is former Giants quarterback Phil Simms who says New York obviously saw some things in him and asked fans to be patient.
