A lot of people seem to think that Jones was picked too soon.

They haven’t been universally kind to say the least although at least a couple have been positive. One of the reasons New York gave for picking Jones was his maturity and his ability to deal with the New York media. Good thing. Looks like he may need it.

One of the writers here said that maybe the Giants saw something no one else did. Others have criticized his stats and his performance.

A couple of things to consider here.

First, if you remember he was forced into service as a redshirt freshman when Thomas Sirk tore his Achilles tendon and had a rough adjustment before settling in.

In his sophomore year he had injuries which were never fully disclosed that limited his effectiveness - and Duke lost six straight games before bouncing back.

This past season he broke his collarbone.

Yet despite his injuries Jones kept going. Maybe his toughness was a factor in New York’s decision.
