Arizona’s Sean Miller just can’t seem to escape wiretaps.
If you’ll recall, last year a story emerged that the FBI had allegedly wiretapped Miller and had incriminating evidence.
The story, which was reported by ESPN, was criticized as flawed and while Miller’s assistant Book Miller was indicted (and convicted) in the first corruption trial; Miller was not and retains his job.
In Wednesday’s testimony in the second trial, a video was played that clearly seemed to implicate Miller, with runner Christian Dawkins saying clearly and explicitly that Miller knew everything about his program, that he had arranged payments for De’Andre Ayton personally and that “I can call Sean and have a conversation like, ‘this is what’s going on.’ He’ll talk on the phone about things he shouldn’t talk on the phone about.”
Federal judge Edgardo Ramos initially ruled that Miller would not have to testify because he was irrelevant to the current case. The defense is going to ask him to reconsider first thing in the morning and Miller, who now appears to be well and truly in it, may be required to take the stand under oath.
