Well this would shake things up: New York is reportedly open to trading their draft pick if it’s a top three pick and that means that Boston could be one of the main suitors.

Their main goal is still to acquire big man Anthony Davis but Davis’s father has raised concerns about Boston and A.D. may not want to come regardless of what dear old dad thinks.

So if that transpired, Boston would be able to offer more than anyone else and could end up with either Zion Williamson, Ja Morant or RJ Barrett or perhaps someone else, depending on what Danny Ainge wants.

We’d love it for either Williamson or Barrett. The most important thing for any young player is to be with a well-managed franchise. Look how many young players have had their spirit broken playing for bad organizations. We still remember Danny Manning greeting Danny Ferry when he was with the Clippers saying “welcome to hell.”

In some ways Barrett might actually be a better fit with Boston but that’s for Ainge to decide.

However this is certainly true: the more assets he acquires the less valuable they become. He can’t just stockpile draft picks indefinitely. For one thing, they become expensive. And for another it gets hard to balance egos when you have too many stars.

So if New York does decide to deal, things could get very interesting. Just imagine this scenario: the rumors about Kyrie Irving wanting to move to the Knicks are true and Boston lets him go and gets Ja Morant in return.

That could be very intriguing, not least of all if the deal goes down during the draft itself, which will be held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. That could be an amazing thing to see if it happens.
