State’s recruiting took a major hit this weekend as Jalen Lecque, who was to be State’s point guard of the future if only for a year, opted instead to put his name in the NBA Draft.
He can do it because he’s 19 and spent a year at Brewster Academy.
That doesn’t mean it’s going to work out.
First, even though it’s not a great draft this year an astonishing number of players have already put their names in.
He’s currently seen as a second-round pick at best and here’s a general truth about guys who have entered the draft without playing in college: very few of them are guards.
He might make it, we have no idea. But the odds are against him.
Fortunately the rules have changed and he could still play at State if the draft doesn't work out.
