Jeremy Woo’s Look At The 2019 NCAA East Regional Has A Great Bit on Zion Williamson

Over at SI.com, Jeremy Woo takes a look at the Eastern Regional and has this beautiful, hilarious riff up on Zion OMG Williamson:

“Williamson is more than just a showstopping dunker (although he’s certainly that)—he’s essentially a rhinocerous on a go-kart with a sledgehammer strapped to his back who can finish with both hands, jump over anybody (7’6” UCF star Tacko Fall will not be safe), and do it while making everyone else on his team smile and feel better about themselves. He’s real, and he’s spectacular.“

Now that’s good stuff. Our first phrase was a bulldozer with wings but we like the rhino on a skateboard a lot. That’s damn good, right down to the Seinfeld reference at the end.

There’s one thing that Woo missed here and we haven’t seen anyone else pick up on it and we think it’s important: Williamson is from Spartanburg. Spartanburg is about an hour and a half from Columbia. Home town pride and state pride - and while South Carolina has historically channeled state pride into some most unfortunate areas, it is unquestionably a state with immense pride. And that pride is going to radiate all over its new favorite son, Zion OMG Williamson.
