When you hear the name Gene Banks today a lot of people will think of programs to save seeds but for Duke fans, the name brings up memories of a golden era of basketball when Banks helped lead Duke back to the Promised Land of hoops.

In this article former Duke stars Vince Taylor and Johnny Dawkins, both now at Central Florida where Dawkins is head coach and Taylor an assistant, talk about the impact that Banks had on Duke’s program.

It’s hard to remember now but Dawkins was just the third McDonald’s All-American to sign with Duke (Banks was the first and Taylor the second).

It may be a bit late but we’re happy to see that Banks is getting some credit for his contributions to what has happened in Durham over the last several decades.
