After Withering Attacks On Friday, LSU A.D. Joe Alleva Gets Some Modest Media Support

Alleva did the right thing in suspending Will Wade, but unlike when he was the Duke A.D. mishandling the lacrosse case, he really had no choice other than to do the right thing.

This is pretty interesting: as the LSU circus continues to unfold, with fans attacking Athletic Director Joe Alleva, a former LSU athlete has come to the defense of the former Duke A.D.

Booger McFarland used Twitter to lash out at LSU fans, saying that “the fans would rather (Alleva) let Will (Wade) coach, when Will wouldn’t even come to (Alleva’s) office and meet with him after the tapes came out? Fans are crazy sometimes. Even the ones that I grew up around. Wow.”

And in the Chattanooga Times Free Press, columnist Mark Weidmer points out the idiocy of the Tigers fan base, arguing that “What those fans failed to understand is that as pointless as this suspension may be, Alleva’s actions might be the only way LSU can emerge from this with any degree of integrity in the eyes of the NCAA, which will almost assuredly severely penalize the basketball program if it’s proven true that Wade paid money to sign Smart and offered money for other recruits.“

How far will the fan rebellion go? Stay tuned.
