Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim was driving last night when he struck and killed a man on Interstate 690.
The victim, Jorge Jiminez, had left his car which had had struck a guard rail. According to Syracuse.com, Boeheim swerved to miss the car, which was in the road, and hit Jiminez.
It’s a terrible thing to hear, first of all for Jiminez and his family. They have suffered a terrible loss.
It also can’t be easy for Boeheim. Taking someone’s life, even if this is ruled a blameless accident, is something terribly traumatic and which you can’t easily escape. It’s nothing to what Jiminez’s loved ones are feeling this morning but Boeheim must be anguished over this too. How could anyone not be?
We know already that Boeheim was neither intoxicated nor speeding and the other driver was also tested and was sober. So far it just sounds like a tragic accident.
