An Interesting Take On Duke Basketball

And an astounding stat too

Ben Swain has an interesting and thoughtful column up about Duke basketball in general and this year’s team in particular.

Everyone who watches Duke has to deal with expectations and that’s especially true for the players.

Like everyone, we don’t know exactly what to expect this year but our guess is that, as they usually do, Duke will figure things out before too far into the season. That doesn’t mean a Final Four guarantee or anything, but if they stick together and play hard, good things will happen.

We’re eager to see what unfolds.

By the way, there’s an amazing stat in here that may give you pause just as much as it did us: with his next win, Mike Krzyzewski will become the most winning coach in basketball, at any level. That’s really amazing to think about. He’ll have passed every high school and D-II coach who stay in one place for a lifetime, Pat Head Summit, Adolph Rupp, Dean Smith, Red Auerbach, Phil Jackson and anyone else you can possibly think of.

Soon he’ll stand alone at the top of everyone. Who could have imagined it?
