You Tube Gold: Stephen F. Austin’s Nathan Bain’s Run Into History

It wasn’t much fun for Duke fans but it was a spectacular way to win a game.

While watching Stephen F. Austin beat Duke in Cameron wasn’t much fun, it was a storybook ending for the Lumberjacks and in particularly for Nathan Bain.

A native of Freeport, Bain’s family lost everything in Hurricane Dorian which gives a useful bit of perspective.

Losing a game is not that big a deal compared to what they’v been through. And if his moment in the spotlight brings them some joy we’re not going to be too upset about it. Life, as that storm proved, is entirely too short.

Stephen Freakin’ Austin earned a lot of respect Tuesday night. We hope that sometime soon Duke will meet the standard of toughness and character that Bain and his teammates demonstrated Tuesday night. They were superb and certainly earned the win and the glory that comes with it.

Bain said this after the game.

“I’m trying real hard not to get emotional. My family lost a whole lost this year. Whoo, I’m not gonna cry on TV.

“My family lost a whole lot this year. I’m just playing this game for them. Just playing for my SFA family, my family back home in the Bahamas. I just want to make my country proud.”

It’s safe to say he has.
