When we first became aware of Kevin Keatts, we were impressed with his ability to compete with talent that was a step or two down from so-called Blue Bloods. He’s done a great job it though. It led us to wonder what would happen when he got some major talent in.

We may know soon.

On Monday, State got point guard Shakeel Moore from the Moravian School. On Tuesday, the Pack went back for seconds, getting 6-8 Josh Hall, a Top 50 player and the second highest rated player in North Carolina.

State really went all-in in state this year. Keatts’ haul so far:

  • 6-8 Josh Hall, Durham
  • 6-1 Cam Hayes, Greensboro
  • 6-1 Shakeel Moore, Piedmont
  • 6-7 Nick Farrar, Apex
  • 6-10 center Ebenezer Dowuona, Ghana (HS in Georgia)

We should get a better idea in a year or two just how well these guys work out. Projections are usually worthless. You never know how someone will turn out.

We expect this class will be solid though.

On a different note, we think you’ll soon see great improvement from State, Pitt and Virginia Tech. The circumstances are right for all to make a big move up.
