The Daily Memphian has a long article up on former Blue Devil Grayson Allen and his periodic bad boy issues and in this one, Allen opens up more than we’ve ever seen about this.
It’s kind of striking actually because he’s been careful to not really talk about it before. Here’s part of what he said:
“There’s two sides to it, right? So, no, it doesn’t bother me. At the same time, I know for myself that whatever they’re saying, part of it is true, part of it is whatever you want to make of it.
“Part of it is like, yeah, it’s not the right play to make, right? That part of it I take away...But, the other side of it, is it a wrong play? Yes.
“Is it a flagrant foul? Yes.
“Factual things are, yes, they’re there. It’s wrong. And it’s something for me I’ve had a problem with getting heated, getting too fired up. It’s something I continue to work on. And you know, hopefully, one day I’ll master it.”
As far as we can recall, that’s the most he’s ever publicly addressed the issue and we hope he continues to confront it and in fact will master it. By all accounts he’s a great teammate and a decent person who makes time for people who are suffering and in pain and not just for good PR.
Like all of us, he has complexities, contradictions and flaws, but the better angels of Grayson Allen’s nature, we’re sure, will ultimately triumph.
